| *new here* Phentermine with Lapband. July 9, 2009 at 12:22 am |
| | Hi, my name is Monique. I had the lapband placed 4 years ago. My starting weight was 262. I lost 93lbs in 3 years (having 2 babies in there as well)/ After my last son, when they refilled the band, they overfilled me, I was overfilled for almost a year. I was unfilled completely May 1st. July 7th I was refilled and giving Phentermine to reboost my metabolism. I am filling the script tomorrow but just wanted to get information. I regained 14lbs in the 2 months I was unfilled while excersising daily and eating 1200-1300 calories. Anyone have any advice for a newbie? Anyone have a band and taking Phen? |
| So hungry tonite...what do you think? July 8, 2009 at 11:52 pm |
| | My endocrinologist (I'm hypOthyroid) gave me 30mg generic presription and I take the yellow capsules. It'll be 2 weeks on Sat and I'm down about 5 pnds so far and trying to stick to 1200-1400 cals a day. Lots of water. Tonight I was starving at 4pm and again about 10! I was thinking I should take the pill later in the day (I take it between 6am and 8am). I'm a night owl so I go to bed around 11-12 every nite. I've been walking each night this week too so I thought that might have caught up w/me (briskly for about 1/2 hour). Is it maybe this dose or the pill type? Or should I try taking it later in the day? (how late would be too late?) Should I cut back on exercise for now? any ideas? |

| | Well, I was off this afternoon and feeling ambitious, so since the weather was overcast and relatively cool (for Georgia in July) I decided to jog 3 miles to the local high school and walk back, a total of six miles. As is usually the case, nothing in my life ever works as planned. The road to the high school had a lot more steep uphill climbs than I remembered, and of course once I got on the road the clouds disappeared and Mr. Hot Sun came out to bake me. I made it to the high school without incident, but I was seriously sweating. That's okay, I thought, there's a drugstore right around the corner, I'll just buy some gatorade. well, the drugstore was a lot more than right around the corner....almost a mile away! But I did get there, bought two 32 ounce gatorades and chugged one down in the parking lot. Then to my surprise it started RAINING...out of nowhere. Oh great! I thought..I'll just cool off. I started off on the return leg, skirting a local lake on a jogging path. Well, 10 minutes later the sun came out again and the humidity was FIERCE. Bleah. I'm soaked and steaming....might as well call my wife to pick me up. No dice. She's not answering the phone. Great, now I guess I'll have to walk home after all. Well, it got REALLY dark and I thought oh boy we are in for one helluva frogchoker here. So I decided to take a wood trail home as a shortcut, and I'll also jog it even though I haven't jogged over 3 miles in years. The heavens opened up but it was so cool in the woods because the forest canopy over the trail let very little water down on me.....at first. I was marvelling how bad it was raining and how relatively dry I was when I guess the trees had reached saturation point and everything I was wearing got horribly soaked, including my prized running shoes, which were now squishing with every step. Then I got lost. I wasn't paying attention and missed a turnoff in the rain. Okay, rather than backtrack a half mile (took me a while to figure out I'd goofed) I decided I knew where another trail led. I didn't. I finally dragged my sorry keister home and my legs were aching and muddy and my feet were swollen. Struggled into a warm shower then stepped on the scale out of habit. I'd dropped SIX POUNDS during my run, despite consuming a half gallon of gatorade!! I retraced my route on mapmyrun.com, thinking I'd gone 6 to 6.5 miles total. I'd gone a little over EIGHT MILES. My legs feel like steel bands tonight, I think I'm going to take tomorrow off from exercising!! ♬ ♪ Eight Miles High... ♪ ♬ |

I never go over 1200 calories... am I supposed to just keep them all as low as possible? lol I feel like a JUGGLER!!! Any advice greatly appreciated!!! |

| My 1 Year Anniversary July 8, 2009 at 9:29 pm |
| For those of you who are new here hopefully this will give you some hope and make you realize it can be done! Even though it feels like an eternity what you went through is defiently worth the ride. Today is not only my 26th birthday but it makes a year since i started my journey! I weighed in at a whopping 210lbs ( remember iam only 5'0) and today i weigh in at 133. My goal was 125 and i might of not hit it but iam darn proud of myself for maintaining my weight through the holidays and the summer vacations! It seems like just yesterday i was starting my diet ( again as always) thinking i was going to fail as i did every other time i did it. My mom telling me in one corner i was to overweight and she was worried about me then in the other corner my dear husband telling me i was perfect the way i was. But me myself and I knowing i was totally miserable with the way i looked it made me sick! I was wearing a size 16 jeans which should of been 18 because i had a muffin top. Now iam a little person. I might of been a big girl for many years but i have a small frame i couldnt take it anymore. Walking from the car to the mall made me so out of breath i slowed down behind my husband to catch it hoping noone would notice. As a matter of fact that is one of the first times i stopped to realize i lost weight when i walked from the car to the door and wasn't out of breath. It made me cry. That was a huge accomplishment for me. It was hard. You lose weight hoping that people would treat you the same. Maybe make some comments here and there to make you feel like your work paid off but for the most part just be there for you. Sadly as in so many cases its not that way, My mom was my biggest push for weight loss she said i was to big and as much as that hurt my feelings i was. As i lost more and more weight and wanted to talk to her about it because i was excited, the more turned off by the whole thing she was. Now iam in smaller clothes then her. Whenever we are together i see her looking at me then herself comparing us. I felt so uncomfortable. This is coming from the person who wanted me to lose weight the most. I dont honestly think she thought i would go through with it. And i really couldnt blame her i mean how many times can you start a diet and never finish it? So here iam today as i accomplished probably the most hardest thing i will ever have to do in my life and iam an all around better person. My attitude is better my personality is better. My marriage not like it was bad before but if possible is a million times better. I never realized how much weight can put a damper on everything in your life. So hang in there if your not losing weight fast. Who cares keep going keep pushing it will come off and you will look in the mirror one day and be a whole different person. You wont even be able to recongize yourself. Here are my before and after pics :) Hopefully this inspires you guys to keep pushing yourselves! Before (210lbs) After ( my 1 year anniversary) 80lbs lost and a breast reduction ( obviously) Here is me tonight in the only pair of size 16s i have left ( the ones that i had a muffin top in) And a picture with my daughter in my pants also ( she doesnt look happy i know) she didnt want to take a pic but thought it was hilarious to be in my pants with me ALSO I WANTED TO SAY CONGRATS! To one of my dearest Phrends we started together. Secretely was against eachother in the race to get to our goals! ALBOBABY!! Iam so proud of you girl HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TOO :) |

He said it was a law that you can only have it for 90 days and then you have to take a 6 month break. Is this true? Wouldn't my Doctor know this? Very disappointed if this is the way it goes. I finally feel like I found something that works. |
| Why do I feel like this on Phentermine..... July 8, 2009 at 8:35 pm |
| | I will try to put this in lay mans terms so that many will be able to understand just why they feel the way they do when taking Phentermine. It's not all in your head....well in a way it is but it is the chemicals that are affected that causes you to feel or do the things you do while under the influence Phentermine belongs to the class of drugs called anorectics. Metabolic activities accumulate fat in the body and these are also capable of burning the fat accumulated. Only a small help is required by metabolic system to burn extra fat. An obese can help his or her metabolic system by suppression of appetite. Suppression of appetite can block regularly increasing surplus energy. Appetite suppression is simple if you are taking the help of an appetite suppressant. Anorectics stimulates the hypothalamus gland, which affects certain neurotransmitters resulting in reduced appetite. And, reduced appetite controls one's food intake which lets fat not go in body. These have been tested to decrease cravings for food by making changes in the serotonin levels in brain. Serotonin is considered to regulate mood, sleep, sexuality and appetite. So, Phentermine acts as amphetamines, which stimulate nervous system. This stimulation causes minute elevation in blood pressure and in the rate of heart beats. All these physical changes generate feeling of hunger satisfaction and thus an obese consumes lower quantity of food. Serotonin Levels and Chemical Imbalance Serotonin availability and its ability to function properly is dependant on many different vitamins, amino acids and other transport molecules all working together. It is synthesized from the conversion of L-Tryptophan-to-5-HTP, which then crosses the blood-brain barrier and is broken down into 5-HT, commonly known as Serotonin. A Serotonin chemical imbalance may occur for a number of reasons, though the exact causes or not yet known. What researches do know, is that synthetic reuptake inhibitors may increase the availability of serotonin levels in the central nervous. This is one of the reasons that patients taking SSRI's may see an improvement in mood within a period of weeks or months. Alternative medicines have also been used to increase Serotonin availability and reduce overall feelings of anxiety/depression related disorders. St. Johns Wort, for example, has been clinically shown to inhibit the reuptake of the Serotonin neurotransmitters, making Serotonin more available in the central nervous system. Moreover, 5-HTP, which is a precursor to serotonin, has been shown in oral supplementation to cross over the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system, completely bypassing L-Tryptophan conversion. This is believed to be the reason why individuals taking 5-HTP may report improved mood within 2 weeks of supplementation. Caution should be used when dosing yourself and not working with a Doctor. So what is Serotonin? Serotonin is manufactured in the brain and can be found in blood platelets, pineal glands and the digestive tract of the body. It has quite a few functions, but its main duty is to send messages from one area of the brain to the other by transmitting nerve messages to nerve cells. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays an intricate role in the way we eat, sleep and behave. When the level of serotonin in the brain is changed, a person's behavior will also be altered. This is why Phentermine will help with weight lose due to it's affect on Serotonin levels. Low Serotonin Levels A normal level of serotonin promotes feelings of happiness, but at times, the body becomes overly stressed and will begin to use higher levels of serotonin to compensate for being overwhelmed. Because of the increased stress level, the body will not be able to produce more serotonin to replace the amount that was taken from the reserve. The body will suffer a recession, so to speak, which can lead to a mild to moderate case of depression. The lower the level of serotonin in the brain, the deeper the depression. The Symptoms Symptoms of low serotonin levels are: • Difficulty focusing and concentrating • The smallest task can seem like a chore. • Chronic fatigue • Appetite/sleep disturbance • Low libido • Low to no self-esteem • Social withdrawal Serotonin Syndrome Serotonin syndrome is a condition found when a high level of serotonin is in the brain. Most people may think this is a good thing because serotonin keeps the body in a "happy place," but this is not the case. When someone is treated for depression using medication, most antidepressants increase serotonin levels in the brain. However, there are also other medications that affect the serotonin levels. For example, if a person takes medication to help with his migraines while at the same time taking antidepressants, the two drugs will interact and cause serotonin syndrome. Because this condition can cause death, the symptoms can occur within minutes, and they are as follows: • Rapid heartbeat • Hallucinations • Diarrhea and vomiting • Change in blood pressure • Coordination loss Now that you have a sense of what Serotonin is you will understand why I posted the thread on drug interactions. As long as one is under a Doctor's supervision and is monitor to avoid complications when mixing drugs you should have no problem. I believe strongly that blood drawls should be done when you are using a mixture of drugs/vitamins to see if you serotonin is still within normal range to avoid Serotonin Syndrome. |

I have randomly struggled with my weight, but I blame this episode on not taking care of myself and my poor eating habits during pregnancy. My image affects my sex drive with my husband and my self esteem barely exist anymore. I heard about Phen and was consulting with clinics until I found one that sparked interest with me. I started my Phen today and the only side affects I have noticed is that I'm very quiet...I'm thinking alot, but not much is coming out of my mouth...hmmm?? I am shooting to lose 12 lbs this month. Good luck to all of you out there and I look forward to sharing thoughts with you. |

I was also taking Mega Ditex, but quit because it was making me very sick and I was only losing 1-2 ounces per week. The week after I quit the Mega Ditex I lost 3.8 lbs. I am exercising 3-4 times a week. Doing cardio and weights. When I weighed in at the doctor's this morning I had only lost 4 ounces, which was the 4 ounces I had gained the week before. The more we get into summer, the harder I am finding it to stick to the plan on the weekends. Does anyone else seem to have the problem on the weekends, and if so what did you do to stick to the right eating choices? I am happy that I didn't gain, but I want to lose at least a pound a week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! |

I have stopped eating non natural sweets, now I just munch a hand full of berries or an apple when the sweet tooth hits. Is it common to stall like this? Any suggestions on how to get it rolling again? Thanks Michigan Walt |

| New Kid Here! July 8, 2009 at 12:03 pm |
| | Hi all...I'm Kelly; 27 female from Chicago. Started Phen Friday July 3rd and feel ok thus far. The first 3 days I felt a bit...for lack of a better term...high on the pill...just really mellow and relaxed. By Monday, I felt pretty normal. However, I've noticed a bit of excess gas, (I'm assuming it's gas) in my chest. It feels as though I swallowed some food and part of it got stuck going down, and just couldn't dislodge itself. I've taken some Pepto and Gas-X, and it seems to do the trick. But it's returned for a 2nd day; which has me concerned. Has anbody experienced anything similar? The day the doc gave me the meds, my blood pressure was through the roof. I had to leave work on lunch, race to get to the office, and was constantly on edge the whole time, as I was on a time crunch. Normally he wouldn't have you come back to the office until the next month, but he asked me to return this week to check on my BP again. He told me that if it wasn't lower this time, he wouldn't give me a second dose of the meds. I stopped at the pharmacy this morning and bought a bp monitor of my own; and it is high. I'm paranoid that when I go to his office tomorrow to have him check it, it will still be too high to continue with the pill. The sad thing is, this is the first time in my life hunger and food haven't been the most prevalent thought in my head. If he says I can't take it anymore, I'm back at square one. Sorry to have such a Debbie Downer first post on this site; I'm totally in period city right now...so that definitely isn't helping matters! =) |

I am asking because I will be going on vacation at the end of the month. ( my weigh in at dr office will occur that week as well) I am TERRIFIED of the scale and do not want to get on it before I go to the dr. I know I have lost some weight I can see my tummy shrnking and I can tell by my clothes... I acutally was able to fit in the GOAL jeans on yesterday!! YEAHHHHHHHH... I do not say I am on a diet I have changed my lifestyle of eating, I have great control when it comes to food. YOU can eat whatever you wnat in front of me and I will not CHEAT! Please let me know if there is a reason! ( I do know most people stop and start back for that extra push) |

| Started Phentermine today! Advice?! July 8, 2009 at 9:23 am |
| | Hello! I am Jessica and just started Phentermine 15mg today. My dr says I can only be on it for 2 months? Not sure the reasoning but that is fine by me. I will take what help I can get. I am also doing Weight Watchers at the same time. So hopefully I can get rid of this weight for good. I had a baby on Feb 18th of this year. I was 181 when I got pregnant and weighed in at the dr yesterday at 208 and about had a heart attach. I cannot believe I am over 200 pounds and there is no baby in my belly! I am only 5'1" and heart disease and diabetes runs in my family. I want to get healthy not only for myself but for my son and husband too. Anyone have any advise for me? And does anyone know why I can only be on this 2 months or is it 2 months and a break and then back on it? Thanks so much! :D |

| 5 reasons why you are always starving from WW July 8, 2009 at 7:50 am |
| | 1. You eat the right foods at the wrong times. Eating at different times every day can make it difficult for you to tune in to your body's hunger signals, says Cindy Moore, MS, RD, director of Nutrition Therapy at the Cleveland Clinic. Haphazard eating can hurt your metabolism as well. When British researchers asked women to eat meals at either the same time or at different times each day, those who followed a predictable pattern ate less and burned more calories than those who ate at a different time every day. The Fix: Plan ahead. If you've been journaling, review your food diary to zero in on when you're most likely to fall prey to eating at erratic times. (If you haven't been keeping a food diary, try doing so for a few days.) Then, says Moore, write out a schedule that focuses on eating within 2 hours of waking up and every 3 to 5 hours after that for the rest of the day. If you tend to lose track of time, set your watch or digital organizer to beep when you should eat. 2. You eat breakfast, just not the right kind. Although any breakfast is better than none, the foods you choose can have a major impact on how satisfied you feel for the rest of the day. Take that convenient cereal bar: It might appear to be a healthy choice when you don't have time for a sit-down meal, but its mega-dose of simple sugars may have you rummaging through the fridge well before lunch. The Fix: Build a better mix of nutrients. The key to making your breakfast hold your appetite at bay until lunch is building a morning meal that contains both protein and carbs. "It's important to combine some protein along with some complex carbohydrates to provide sustained energy throughout the morning," says Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA, RD, a Long Island–based dietitian in private practice. Opt for no-fuss choices like a slice of cheese on whole-wheat bread, egg whites on toast, whole-grain cereal with low-fat milk, even half a turkey sandwich . 3. Your diet is flawless but flavorless. If ho-hum, diet-conscious standbys like grilled chicken and steamed veggies are staples on your dinner plate, you could be headed for trouble. "You're going to get bored and eventually have difficulty sticking with your weight-loss plan," says Lona Sandon, MEd, RD, assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. The Fix: Spice it up. Getting creative in the kitchen will give your stand-by recipes new life—and keep you more satisfied in the long run. "Experiment with fresh, flavorful herbs, like basil, gingerroot, oregano, and mint," suggests Moore. Also, adding acidity (a dash of lemon juice or balsamic vinegar) and sweetness (a teaspoon of honey or brown sugar) can make your staple dishes more complex in taste—and more satisfying. Texture is also key: Aim for combinations of creamy, crunchy, and chewy. Try tossing chopped nuts on your greens or mixing granola into your yogurt. 4. You stockpile your calories. Do you often eat so sparingly during the day that by the time dinner rolls around you're famished? That strategy can backfire, leading to uncontrollable overeating in the evening. "When you skip meals it's harder to think straight, so you're less concerned with the implications of what you eat," says Taub-Dix. The Fix: Frontload those calories. Eating earlier in the day is a must to head off disaster later on. Limit the size of your evening meal so that you wake up eager for breakfast. Even if you're not hungry, be sure to eat something—even a small bite. "Treat yourself the way you'd treat your kids—you wouldn't let them skip meals," says Taub-Dix. 5. You drink your meals. With the ever-increasing popularity of lattes for breakfast and smoothies for lunch, many of us are drinking our calories away. But drinking too many caloric beverages can ultimately leave you feeling unsatisfied. When researchers at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, gave study participants 450 extra calories daily in the form of either fluid or solid food, those who ate the extra solids ate less later in the day whereas those who drank the extra fluids did not. The reasoning: Chewing causes the release of hormones that signal fullness, and solid food is digested more slowly than liquids. The Fix: Rethink convenience. Slurping down a meal might seem fast and easy, but in the time it takes to drive to the coffee shop, stand on line, and pay for that latte, you could have had something just as quick—and far more satisfying. "Try a slice of toast with peanut butter or a cup of yogurt with some fruit," says Lona Sandon. If it's the comfort of a hot drink you crave, go ahead and have that latte—just order it with fat-free milk. And instead of sipping it solo, enjoy it with a few whole-grain crackers or a banana. In other words, focus on food combinations that will get you through to your next meal—no starving required.
